Berwick Colts 6 Tynedale Colts 30

The sun shone on the trip up the East Coast for the trip to Berwick for the Arnold Clark sponsored Colts team and it seemed to inspire the lads to play some good fast attacking rugby.

From the kick off the ball found Louis Frankland and with dazzling feet he had worked some space and beaten 3 defenders, offloading to Callum Young using his pace to go outside his opposition winger, offloading to Louis when tackled by full back for Louis to open scoring, Rory Dixon converting.

After an injury to Rich Ridley, Chris Harvey officer and gentleman came on at number 8 and had a very good game carrying and offloading helping to link Tynedale's game together. Bewick were sticking at the task but the Tynedale forwards dominated the breakdown area Brogan Millar and Will Brown clearing up the mess and time and again setting up to drive the Colts up the pitch..

The next try came after a good break by Martin 'Hutt' Hutton deep into the Berwick half with the ball stopped 10 metres out. Jack Liddle and Dave Batey both drove for the line and were knocked back the defence holding strong but when it was passed to Adam Telfer he charged through the defence like a rhino through tall grass to score the 2nd and take a 12-0 lead.

The Berwick fly half was using the wind very well and after Tynedale infringed on the 22 metre line he knocked a penalty over to make 12-3

Another surge up field saw Hutt join the line leaving Callum a little bit of space and away he went again seeming to hit top speed in 2 strides making the other players look as if they are in slow motion, the Berwick full back stopped him again but Brogan Millar was in support to finish off the move, the try being just reward for Brogan who was always in the thick of the action.

Rory and the Berwick fly half swapped penalties and it was 20-6 at half time.

Playing with the wind the colts boys were soon camped in the Berwick 22 and another strong drive saw Adam drive over for his 2nd try of the day, with a big squad the changes were coming youngsters James Raine and Sam White were soon making yards as they went up the pitch like two wreaking balls knocking players out of their paths as if they were hit by a bus. Peter Elliott had another good game playing out on the wing.

Ben Ridley came on at number 8 and showed what a valuable player he is clearing out in the breakdowns earning praise from the coaching team, he seems to be able to stay on his feet while horizontal and only1 foot off the ground. Curtis Hood finished off the scoring with a try in the corner when the pressure built up and Berwick just ran out of defenders. Showing great versatility matt chard had 20 minutes at prop then played the last 5 at fullback during which time he managed to put in a great tackle, swap hand bags with the Berwick second row and put in the best clearance kick of the day.
