With the wind howling straight down the pitch the Arnold Clark sponsored Tynedale Colts kicked off with the wind, intending to play deep in their opponents territory and score enough points to make up for the 2nd session into the wind. But after failing to get the kick the required 10 metres and hand the initiative to the Hawick lads Tyne never touched the ball as they were driven back to their own line and with 5 minutes played they were 7-0 down. The wind did blow for the whole game but did not seem to be much of an advantage as no more points were scored.
This was another good performance by the Colts forwards who matched a bigger set of lads from Hawick all round the pitch and totally outscrummaged them in the tight to such an extent that PSA opted to play uncontested scrums for the final 15 minutes.
It was not a day which allowed much in the way of backs play but Fraser McKenna at scrum half played well and Martyn Hutton dealt with all that was sent his way at full back. With a bit more composure and experience Tynedale would have broken down the Hawick defence so it goes down as another game that should have been won.
Joe Northwood gets the vote as Man of the Match for a great hard
working display all over the pitch.
