Tynedale Colts travelled to Duns to face the team on the bottom of the semi-junior boarder league and with an early start and a growing injury list it was a depleted squad of 17 that made the trip.
With only three minutes played the Colts were behind as a bone crunching tackle by Jack Liddle was harshly judged as high and Duns knocked the kick over from the 22 metre line.
Tynedale were soon back at the other end and after some good driving play by the pack Angus White just held up, Dave Batey powered over for the try. For the rest of the first half Tyne were playing some good rugby three more times they worked the ball up to the Duns try line only to make an error rather than finish off the move. It was Dun's who scored next, another penalty to go into half time at 6-5.
After the break the blue and white forwards started to take control and the pressure was on Duns, from a five metre scrum Tyne won against the head, Graham Robson picked and drove, when he was stopped the ball was popped to Joe Northward who dived over for a converted try.
The next try came from 30 metres out and again started from a scrum and pick up from 'Choppa', a great clear out by Liddle ball moved by Fraser McKenna to Ryan Potts then Louis Frankland burst clear through the middle and gave the scoring pass to Dave Batey again converted by Pottsy.
Tyne were causing trouble all over the pitch, Douglas Harding on the right wing stole the ball and turned defensive into attack, then Peter Elliott broke through to make another 20 metre's when it was recycled the ball was spun out to the left for Chris Heslop to score in the corner. Tynedale Colts were soon on the attack again with Potts going close but he was just held up, McKenna's dancing feet seemed to confuse the Duns defence and when he offloaded to Batey he was through for his Hat Trick.
Dave Batey faces an operation and will be out for 3 to 6 months, he will be sadly missed. Jack Liddle gets man of the match for dynamic all round performance and Tynedale take on top of the lead Selkirk next week.
