The playing season was disrupted by extreme weather conditions and the clubhouse suffered from flooding from burst pipes.

Playing Record

After the enforced lay-off, the 1st XV recorded eight wins from ten from late January. Disappointment in the Senior Cup was relieved by the success of the 2nd XV in retaining the Northumberland County Senior Shield and the Academicals in winning their Cup competition.

Easter Tour

In an Easter tour to Gloucestershire the party suffered three defeats in very hard fixtures and lost in the final of the Ross-on-Wye 7's competition in a sudden death play-off. John Shotton organised the tour.

Minis

Over 100 boys attended mini-rugby sessions. The boys won three out of four trophies presented at the County finals - held this year at Tynedale.

Top Point Scorers

Michael Harris - 175

John Smith - 131

Injuries

Will Rutherford, a prominent wing-threequarter at the club for many years, was forced to retire from the game with a serious knee injury. Percy Telfer was injured in late October, thus ending his season's rugby. Centres John Burns, Ian Greener, Peter Telfer and Ian Dodds were out for various periods with injury problems. Stuart Hurst also missed over half the season through injury.
