Bits and Pieces

Mike Coulson

Tynedale President (+ Membership Sec, 4th Official, Barman, etc etc) went into the Freeman hospital on Sunday 31st July for a triple heart bypass operation.

Everything went well although they decided to do a quadruple rather than a triple by-pass. The surgeon was pleased with the way everything went and we are delighted to report that Mike is now back actively involved in club activities.

Financial Accounts 2004-2005

Last year's accounts presented a very depressing picture, with the Grand Revenue account showing a deficit of £19,886 after charging depreciation of £9,379. The Accumulated Funds have fallen from £308K in April 2004 to £288K. Income fell be £7K and expenditure increased by £23K compared with the previous year, when a surplus of £11K had been reported.

Flooding in January 2005 had affected revenue from the clubhouse and also, surprisingly, at matches - with lower gates from attendances at 1stXV matches being a feature.

Grand Meat Draw - Christmas 2005

The return of the Club's once annual meat draw is an attempt to raise funds to offset some of our operational losses incurred as a result of the January floods. The draw this year was organised by Bill Stewart and Edward Robson.

Alistair Johnson

Inside Out - BBC1

(Wed 11/01/2006) - The BBC filmed Ali and some of his friends for a programme called "Inside Out" fronted by John Inverdale to be shown on BBC1 (North East & Cumbria) on Monday 23th January 2006 at 7.30pm. Filming took place at Tynedale Park and at 'Wolf Hills'.

The Club received an E-Mail from producer Andrew Hartley on Jan 18th :-

"Many thanks again for accommodating us so wonderfully well last Wednesday.

John (Inverdale) has very kindly agreed to donate his fee for making the item to Ali's Trust Fund - which says a lot about both his kindness and how impressed he was by both Ali and the way the club has responded."

Past Players

Mixed news on two past players:-

John Wilman

Sadly John died on Friday 19th August 2005 after suffering with Motor-Neurone disease for the past 2-3 years.

John Wilman propped for Tynedale, with great distinction, for a short period in the early 70's before moving west where he played many years for Vale of Lune and Cumbria.

Our records show that John played his first match for Tynedale on 24 October 1970, when he played for the 3rdXV v Durham City, then the following week he represented Tynedale 2ndXV v Northern (Alongside such notables as Andrew Philpotts, Will Rutherford, Geoff Fox, Edward Robson, David Donaldson and Wallace Cousin). His 1stXV debut was 23rd January 1971 v Stockton(away) with team mates that day including Chris Davy, Mike McLoughlin (Clucky), Ian Blyth, Will Rutherford, Ken Docking, Douglas Hamilton, Alistair Whitfield, Roger Dinning and Justin Smart. John's final match for the club was in the final of the Northumberland Senior Cup at the County Ground on 25 April 1971 against Gosforth (lost 6-19).

All Tynedale send our best wishes to John, his wife Wendy and his two children , John and Helen.

Conrad Dickenson

 (2nd May 2006)

Polar explorer Conrad has completed yet another record-breaking trek. Conrad ,50, knocked 10 days off the British record for the fastest 482-mile trek in snowshoes to the geographic North Pole.

Conrad lost two and a half stone during the trek - his diet of specially adapted dog food providing 7,000 calories a day in fuel but he was burning around 10,000!!!

It took Conrad, and his partner Canadian skier Richard Weber, just 52 daya and 12 hours to complete the trip during which they had to endure temperatures dipping to -40C whilst they trekked for up to 17 hours a day.

(5th Feb 2005)

Former Tynedale (injury prone!) winger Conrad and his wife Hilary have recently completed the largest trek across Antarctica on foot by any British polar traveller.

When the couple completed the first leg of their trip on December 23rd they bacame the first British married couple to trek unsupported to the South Pole. They covered 1,380 miles during the 70-day round trip from Herculed Inlet on the north-west coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back.

Congratulation to Conrad and Hilary.

International Tickets

The system of allocation of international match tickets for Grade A matches at Twickenham has changed. Clubs will receive a fixed allocation based on the average number of tickets issued for the 6 Nations matches over the past three seasons.

The club is to apply for its full entitlement and the Management Committee will allocate tickets tp applicants with priority being given to those members who have been seen in recent years to contribute most to developing rugby within the club.

More details are posted on the Club's notice board.

Club Shop

Edward Robson will be selling Tynedale RFC shirts, bags, jackets, ties, scarves and a whole range of garments and memorabilia in the clubhouse both before and after First XV home matches.

New stock has just been purchased and it is well worth inspection for range, quality and value. Edward can be contacted on 01434 604118.

Announcements

Deaths

Barry York
6th December 2005 - aged 57
Barry, who was the club's steward from 1977 until 1990, was a popular member of the stafrf, with a great rapport with members. His sense of fun and mischevious smile combined well with efficient management of the bar. Barry continued to keep in touch with the club and supported social events such as the club's annual cricket visit to Scorton right up to his death.

Tom MacPherson

3rd December 2005 - aged 71
Ex Club Steward - well known personality in the Corbridge area.

Richard (Dick) Adamson

Sunday 7th November 2005
Ex-player, committee man and supporter of the Club.

Marriages

Andrew Robson married Laura on Saturday 30th July 2005.

Facilities for the Disabled

We always try to make our buildings and facilities more accessible and safer for all potential users, including those with varying levels of disability or impairment.

The club seeks to provide easy access for a wide diversity of people - children, older people, players with kitbags, carers with small children, people who are fit and not so fit, as well as those having a disability.

We had hoped by now to have improved the access to the main clubhouse for all those groups, by constructing a ramp and providing a wider main entrance and lobby on the western side of the clubhouse. We also intended to provide improved ladies' toilets and a new disabled toilet.

However, although we obtained planning permission for the work on 21st June 2004 and invited tenders from building contractors with a view to starting work on 4th October, we were unable to find builders willing to undertake the work - because of the high level of activity locally and nationally, in the building construction industry.

In consultation with our architects, Napper Architects Ltd, we have revised our timetable, and the start date has been deferred until Monday 20th June 2005 to enable us to identify suitable contractors at a competitive price.

If anyone with any level of disability or impairment requires assistance they should notify the Hon. Secretary of the Club, Bill Stewart (07906 165794(Mobile)) or any other officer of the club, and help will be provided. On Saturday match days there will be a duty officer at the club who will be responsible for providing any specific assistance which may be required.
