Bits and Pieces

Andrew Robson

Tragically Andrew was killed in a road traffic accident during the early hours of Sunday 1st July. Andrew was a passenger in a taxi which left the road - the taxi driver also died.

Our thoughts are with Andrew's wife, Laura, their nine month old son, William , and the rest of Andrew's family during this dreadfully tragic and sad time.

Clubhouse Developments

Work on the new disabled access and disabled toilets at the clubhouse will begin on Monday 23rd April 2007. This will provide a new improved entrance to the clubhouse on the eastern side of the building and it will provide disabled facilities which comply with Disability legislation.

The development will also see the building of new separate changing-rooms in partnership with Corbridge United Junior Football Club. These new facilities will also accomodate female sortswomen.

The Rugby Club will enter into a 25-year agreement to lease the new changing-rooms and pitches on Tynedale Park to the football club. More details of this agreement can be viewed in the 2005-2006 Annual Report.

Ali Update (1st Feb 2007)

Ali Johnson is now back at home in Wolfhills , Coanwood , Haltwhistle following two long spells in James Cook University Hospital Middlesborough , Spinal Unit , during January 2007. Ali was very seriously ill in early January following an operation for kidney stones & he was re admitted to both James Cook & Hexham hospitals at various stages.

The Johnson family continue to battle with the local authority regarding Ali's need for purpose built accommodation & the next Council meeting is on 5/02/07.

The BBC & ITV were filming at Wolfhills yesterday in support of Ali.

Meanwhile fundraising continues & the Rugby Writers Club have donated £2,000 & the Tynedale RFC collected over £700 at the Cup match against Leeds Tykes.

However the family are facing ongoing & demanding living expenses & need our continued active support.

A meeting is planned for Thursday 22nd. February at Coanwood to coordinate future plans. What can YOU do to help please ??

Thanks & best regards,

Blackie.

Alan Black, Leisure Rugby Manager, Rugby Football Union

New Year greeting from Ali

Ali wishes everyone at Tynedale all the best for 2007. He was disappointed not to see people on the 16th Dec at the club house due to being in Hexham General.

On Jan 1st he was admitted to the SIU for his first kidney operation on the 2nd, the operation took much longer than expected. He was due back to theatre on the 4th but it was cancelled due to his poor condition. His second operation is to be in about 6- 8 weeks time then we hope he has a better year than 2006.

Kindest regards to all the Fylde team on the 6th

Sheila

DEATHS

John Lee

John, our groundsman, died in hospital on Sunday 8th April (Easter Sunday) after suffering a stroke.

John, as well as being a conscientous groundsman who was justifiably very proud of his ground, was a popular personality at the club with his very own dry brand of humour. It is difficult to imagine match days at Tynedale Park without John's presence - he will be sadly missed.

Service and cremation will take place at 11.45am on Monday 16th April, at Newcastle West Road Crematorium.

William (Bill) Armstrong Dinning (17th February 1924 - 12th March 2007)

Sadly Bill died in hospital on Monday 12th 2007, having tragically suffered from ill health over recent years.

If we ever had to choose one person who encapsulated the spirit and ethos of Tynedale Rugby Football Club, then that person would have to be Bill Dinning. The whole rugby fraternity in this region will join Tynedale members in mourning the passing of such a distinguished, influential gentleman of rugby.

Bill played his early games for Tynedale during the Second World War, often against Services sides. He was vice-captain of the 1st XV in the club's 75th anniversary season (1951-52), then captain for the two following seasons, and he continued playing regularly for the club until the mid-fifties.

He was selected for Northumberland county immediately after the war, at first in the unofficial matches of 1945/46, and the following season in the championship side. He then played for Northumberland, virtually without break right up to 1953, missing only one game and setting a new record for county caps. Bill also represented the Northern Counties against the Australian Wallabies in 1948.

Off the field Bill held numerous positions within the Rugby Club where his hands-on approach coupled with his rare ability to activate others and 'make things happen' meant that he was one of Tynedale's most influential administrators ever.

Bill took over the club presidency at Tynedale in 1970 following the sudden death of Bobby Blackburn and served a further term in 1971/72. He was an active member of many of the club's committees and was one of the prime instigators behind the introduction of mini-rugby at Tynedale. Helped by Jim Chapman, Stuart Enevoldson, Tom Dixon and Ken Bell, Bill was the main driving force behind the club's acquisition of Tynedale Park, the move from Dene Park, Hexham, and the construction of the new clubhouse at Corbridge. He later oversaw the building of the new spectator stand.

Bill's efforts on behalf of the club, over almost 40 years, were acknowledged in 1976 when he was elected an honorary life member of the club. It was also appropriate that, in 1993, he was the first Chief Executive appointed by the club after the reorganisation of the management and committee structures.

The listing of Bill's visible achievements and the posts he held does not, however, do full justice to his influence on the club, and its attitudes. He was a towering figure on and off the field. He conveyed a feeling of real enjoyment and fun. He was the oracle - sought out for advice by one and all, and he was always helpful, considerate, and wise. Bill was one of the truly great men of Tynedale Rugby Club both on the field and off the field - a real gentleman who immediately gained and held the respect of all those who met him. We shall not see his like again.

Bobby Dobson
October 2006 - aged early sixties.
Bobby (or "Doorknob" as he was affectionately known by his teammates at Tynedale) sadly died at his home in Lowestoft after suffering from strokes and heart problems over an eight month period.
Bobby, an ex QEGS pupil, played for Tynedale in the late sixties and early seventies and was a regular attendee at the Past Players Lunches - where his ever smiling face and bubbling personality were a key feature of these annual reunions.

International Tickets

The system of allocation of international match tickets for Grade A matches at Twickenham has changed. Clubs will receive a fixed allocation based on the average number of tickets issued for the 6 Nations matches over the past three seasons.

The club is to apply for its full entitlement and the Management Committee will allocate tickets tp applicants with priority being given to those members who have been seen in recent years to contribute most to developing rugby within the club.

More details are posted on the Club's notice board.

Club Shop

Edward Robson will be selling Tynedale RFC shirts, bags, jackets, ties, scarves and a whole range of garments and memorabilia in the clubhouse both before and after First XV home matches.
