The Tynedale RFC President, Andy Deacon, has invited all Tynedale Youth Parents to this Saturday's rugby match at Tynedale Park. Emails have been sent to all Youth Section parents and entry to the match will be free for families on production at the gate of hard copies of this email. Andy expects a fast, open and exciting contest and he hopes that large numbers of parents and their children will come to the club's idyllic ground by the river, enjoy a high quality match and perhaps have a drink in the clubhouse before or after the game.
The kick-off is at 3 o'clock and the National League One match is against Blackheath RFC, who are steeped in history and tradition and have the distinction of being the oldest rugby club in the world.
Andy Deacon has also extended this invitation to the game to residents of Corbridge and the club will be delighted to see as many villagers as possible turn up for the match.
We have operated a player sponsorship scheme for six years, and we are inviting club supporters to assist us again by sponsoring a player in the first team squad for Season 2009/10.
Quality coaching and medical support and the costs of providing kit and equipment are always expensive. This season we will have the added costs of travelling to 15 away matches rather than 13 because of the increase in the number of teams in National League One. To allow us to continue to fund the needs of the players we invite individual and corporate supporters to assist us by sponsoring a player for £50 per season. This support will be acknowledged in the match programme and the club's other publications throughout the year.
I therefore invite you to sponsor a player of your choice by sending a cheque to me for £50 payable to 'Tynedale RFC Limited' to my Wylam address, together with the attached list of players. Once again, sponsorships will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis, so I would ask you to make the list of players with a (1), (2), (3), etc. to show your preferences to ensure that most sponsors will be able to sponsor the player of their choice. (View list of players)
Many thanks for your continued support. Last season we achieved our highest ever league position at level 3 in the National Leagues ,finishing fourth. We believe we have an even stronger squad of players this year, and I am sure we are all going to enjoy an excellent season of rugby during 2009/10.
Yours sincerely,
For TYNEDALE RFC LIMITED.
Tickets will give admission to ground and stand for all home league and friendly matches (not for County cup matches).
This season, due to league reorganisation) there will be 15 home league matches for the 1st XV (13 last year). Nevertheless we have kept this season ticket prices at last year's rates.

Aspire, a national spinal cord injury charity, still has a small number of places available in the 2009 Great North Run and they would be delighted to hear from any of our club members who would like to run on their behalf. In the past several club members have ran for Aspire.
If you know of anyone who might like to run for us or would like a poster to promote the event please get in touch with Andy Ogierman either via e-mail (andrew.ogierman@aspire.org.uk) or on 020 8420 8951.

With the 1stXV squad needing to fly backwards and forwards to Cornwall this season it was essential that every player possessed photographic identification - preferably passports. Our Chairman of Senior Rugby, John Shotton, was as ever meticulously well organised and left nothing to chance by commissioning professional photographer Dan Bolam (Matty's brother) to come along and take passport photographs of the 1stXV squad.

Like most other things provided at Tynedale Park, the clothing is of a high quality and all of these items make very acceptable gifts or presents. Forget chocolates and bunches of flowers! If you are trying to impress your new girlfriend, a pair of monogrammed Tynedale Waterproof bottoms will be just the think to win her affection, and we all know that your mother-in-law would love a monogrammed Tynedale Gumshield for her birthday - although at £2 you may think that this is too much money to lavish upon her.
As well as coming along to watch some breathtaking rugby served up by our 1stXV it is also now possible to take in a pre-match lunch and experience the excellent first class cuisine presented by our highly regarded catering team.
Enjoy a superb 3-course pre-match lunch (choice of starter, main course & dessert) in the clubhouse & soak up the match day atmosphere.
Also an ideal way to celebrate a special occasion (birthday, anniversary) or a great way to build up to the main event. As well as your meal the price includes admission to the match (currently £8 for league matches) with covered stand seating & programme.

Contractors completed work to the road in front of the Clubhouse on Tuesday 4th November. As well as re-surfacing the road the area between the existing road and the clubhouse terraces has been given a tarmac surface and potholes on the main access road have been filled in.
From Monday 6th October the bar and catering responsibilities at Tynedale RFC were taken over by a team made up of Peggy Verkooien, Robert Newton and Julie Carnaffin.
Peggy and Robert also run the bar and catering at Tynedale Golf Club whilst Julie ran the Crown Hotel, Humshaugh with husband Robin.
Peggy, Robert and Julie are determined to provide a warm and friendly professional service to all customers - we are sure that members will make the three welcome and make good use of their services.
Anyone wishing to hire the social facilities at Tynedale RFC, or any general enquiries relating to the bar and catering services offered at the club should be addressed to Peggy (07534 244683) or Julie (07747 055224, E-Mail: juliagray10@yahoo.co.uk)
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Val Mason who has looked after the catering at the club so well over the past twelve months.

Tynedale Rugby Club is a very well managed organisation which is often quoted as an exemplar when rugby is discussed by the rugby fraternity in the North-East or in rugby clubs further afield. Unfortunately this façade masks some serious problems and the General Committee are making strenuous efforts to address a number of issues.
Our club is efficiently run by a handful of dedicated and very hardworking members; for many years I have thought that about 10 people in the organisation are extremely industrious, 10 individuals work quite hard and the remaining 280 of us do nothing but complain when things don't always go right. At times the work-loads of some of the club's officials are almost intolerable.
A large number of people living in the Tynedale area get great enjoyment from watching and following Tynedale Rugby Club but most supporters probably don't realise some of the difficulties involved in the day-to-day management of the club. An organisation like Tynedale RFC has a large number of individuals of differing ages and backgrounds who have much to offer; most members have some ability or skills which could be used by the club. More of us need to get involved.
The club would like to know who is prepared to work for Tynedale Rugby Club and the capacities in which they will serve. The General Committee have therefore decided to construct a list of members who are willing to give up some of their valuable time to the club. Until recently I was a member of the Great Whingeing Majority but since being given an ASBO, my Probation Officer tells me that I need to keep off the streets and I have agreed to act as Volunteer Co-ordinator at Tynedale. I have been in discussion with the Mini-Junior Section of the club about the format of our proposed data-base and we recently mounted an exercise to determine the support that individuals are prepared to give. So far the response has been disappointing and I am again asking members to consider playing a part, however small, in the running of the club.
Anyone who is willing to do any sort of work at Tynedale will be welcomed with open arms. We need gatemen for match days, stewards for our special events but we particularly require people who are prepared to chair a small working group or to sit on such bodies. Tynedale has an ongoing problem to meet our financial commitments and if we have any ambition to improve our facilities or to play at a higher level in the National Leagues, we must be prepared to meet the concomitant increase in expenses which promotion will bring. Most of these small committees will be involved in activities which will try to ensure that the club is financially secure.
I mentioned earlier the nine or ten members who work very hard at Tynedale Park. One of the few things that we cannot seem to manage well is finding individuals who have the skills and energy to carry out the difficult and essential main offices of the club. As the holders of most of these important posts are now looking forward to a telegram from the Queen, succession planning is an issue that Tynedale must, once more, try to address. It would be terrific if a few more members who recently played at Tynedale, or even current players, could think seriously about becoming administrators. It's even more enjoyable being an Alikadoo than playing - and if you believe that you'll believe………..!
The organisation of Tynedale Rugby Club is carried out by a handful of volunteers and as the club's fundraising activities become more important and our day-to-day business is increasingly complicated, it is essential that more members come forward to help in the running of the club. We need to know who is prepared to help and the questionnaire (downloadable here) has been designed to determine those individuals who are willing to give some of their valuable time to facilitate the smooth running of the club. I should be grateful if you would complete it.
If you have any ideas or views on any of these issues, please do not hesitate to approach me at the club or by telephone on 01434-632139.
Keith Laidler, Volunteer Coordinator, Tynedale RFC

John Inverdale, writing in the Telegraph, has suggested that Tynedale could be a serious contender for the title of 'most idyllic sporting venue in the country'.
In his piece, where he acknowledges our promotion to National Division Two, he talks about our 'spectacular Northumberland home', describes our location as 'this glorious part of the North-East' and rightly points out that we are just a few miles from the geographical centre of Great Britain.
Things are really looking good!

Edward Robson
Sadly the club has to report the death of Life Member, Past President and well known personality Edward Robson who died peacefully on Monday 31st August 2009 following a battle against serious illness.
Edward's funeral service will be held at Hexham Abbey on Wednesday 9th September at 1.00pm. Refreshments will be available straight afterwards at Tynedale Rugby Club.
The start of this rugby season has been overshadowed for all Tynedale rugby supporters by the sad news of the death of Edward Robson aged 70 years, on Monday 31st. August 2009.
Edward was a legend at Tynedale; a dominating figure at the club he served so faithfully for 50 years. He was first a flanker for the 1st XV, then Captain of the 2nd XV, and later a selector and committee-man. He was made an Honorary Life-member two years ago to recognise all of his work for the club over that long period of time.
Edward would willingly undertake any task to help the club. It could be very high profile - leading the tour to Canada as President, or it could mean filling the baths and looking after the changing-rooms for several months after John Lee, the groundsman, died suddenly.
The most significant contribution was probably Edward's decision to take the lead when he and two or three others formed a sub-committee to complete the purchase of Tynedale Park. This started the move from Hexham 35 years ago, the construction of the new clubhouse at Corbridge and the developments on the grounds, which completely changed the nature of the Tynedale club.
Edward was also involved in arranging for young players to get experience of rugby and farming in New Zealand by sorting out exchanges with his lifelong Kiwi friend Don Jack, chairing committees, leading the Ali Johnson Appeal, funding the establishment of a Medical Room, selling drapery from his shop on match days, writing poems to celebrate famous victories or events, editing the 125 year commemorative booklet and liaising with the Northumberland County Show - he was always, always involved.
Most of Edward's work was unseen. He was always generous with his time and his resources. No club could have had a better servant at home or a better ambassador away from home. Known throughout rugby circles here and abroad he leaves a huge gap which the club will struggle, and fail, to fill.
We will miss his wise counsel, his ready humour and the feeling of fun and enjoyment which those in his company always felt, even in his last days.
Our thoughts are with his family and especially his children, Catherine, Edward, James and Simon.
