Tynedale Ladies v Northumberland Barbarians (Sat 21st Dec, 1pm)

Tynedale RFC Ladies Touch Rugby - Background
Tynedale RFC Ladies Touch Rugby was formed as a competitive side two seasons ago at an RFU Inner Warrior Camp.
Since then the team has gone from strength to strength, building up the number of players and learning new skills for the game of Touch Rugby. We have received great support from the club and have built up a competitive team.

Our players started with very different levels of experience from none at all (having never even thrown a rugby ball!), to Rugby Union International players who have captained their country. We even have a Women’s Rugby World Cup Medal Winner in our midst.

We are not a young squad! Our ages range from 18 to 63!! You are never too old.
Touch Rugby was new to all of us and it was a steep learning curve to get to grips with a new game. We have developed a great team spirit and those who hadn’t played team sport before have discovered how it enhances your life.

We started by playing a few friendly matches and some social tournaments and then entered the new 2018-19 Thornton Hickeys Ladies Touch Winter League which we were delighted to win. We are now half way through the 2019-20 Winter League and find ourselves at the top so far with players vying for top try scorer.

We have players who were selected this year to play for North East Raiders over 35’s Women at the England Touch Nationals in Nottingham. As a result of their performance at the Nationals two of our players were selected for the Eurostars, at the European Championships in Portugal, which they won.

Touch rugby is a fast game with few stoppages in play. Teams are 6-a-side with rolling subs. It is truly a game for all. There are many mixed men’s and women’s teams and we often train with kids playing too.
New players are always welcome, whatever your experience, or lack of it. We train 6pm – 7pm on Thursday evenings on the Dyvels pitch. Please speak to one of us if you are interested, drop a message to us or simply turn up on a Thursday.
