Preston Grasshoppers overcame a sloppy start to pick up a deserved away win to start their campaign at Tynedale.
It was a rocky start for the 'Hoppers as Tynedale quickly stormed into a twelve point lead with tries from Ben Douglas and Cam Grant.
The away side got their opening season comeback under away with a try from Ed Maher after 15 minutes but Tyne struck again with a second try from Douglas to give the home side a 19-7 lead after 20 minutes.
The 'Hoppers then went on a scoring spree with tries from Maher and Tyler Spence, both converted by William Hunt , edging 'Hoppers into a 21-19 lead and Hunt then converted a penalty to extend their lead.
As half-time loomed Tynedale managed to regroup and a resilient Jacob Oliver stumbled over the line to give the home side a narrow 26-24 advantage at the break.
In the second half the 'Hoppers defence solidified and their attack grew in confidence and after 51 minutes Jacob Browne raced away from the chasing Tynedale defence to score, giving the visitors a 29-26 lead.
Ed Keohane and Will Hunt then linked up to add protection to their slight advantage but Oliver scored his second for Tyne after 63 minutes to narrow their lead once again.
Preston's Ben Haigh got the all important try after 72 minutes, Hunt converting for a 43-33 lead.
A late Oliver try narrowed the margin once again, giving him his hat-trick, but it was not enough for the home side.
