This Saturday we enter new territory as we travel to Lymm in Cheshire for the very first time.
Tynedale and Lymm have however met each other once before, at Tynedale Park in season 1985-1986, when the two clubs met in the first round of what was then the John Player Special Cup. In that match, played on 28th September 1985, Tynedale were 22-0 victors.
For the record Tynedale were then drawn at Wakefield in the second round where they were well beaten 42-6. This was, however, followed in subsequent seasons, by a series of famous Tynedale National Cup matches and victories.
The Match Programme for that match can be downloaded and viewed by CLICKING HERE.
As can be seen in the programme the Tynedale team that day was:-
FORWARDS: C Dixon, A Gledson, P Telfer, P Walker, R Cunningham, H Murray, F Dickenson, M Lee
BACKS: G Rutherford, G Taylor, A Tordhoff, P Sharman, M Richard, D Maddison, J Rutherford,
REPLACEMENTS: W Robson, J Self
Interesting to note that only one of the 17-man squad, Mark Richard, was NOT a product of Tynedale Youth Rugby and/or local schools.
Five of the squad are regular attendees at current First XV matches
LAST SEASON (2022-2023)
Lymm gained promotion into National League 2 (North) after finishing top of Regional One North-West last season in a close run thing with Blackburn, both teams finishing level on match points but Lymm winning the top spot on a better points difference.
