Although under the cosh for much of the game, Tynedale led until deep into added-on time.
They were pinned in their own 22 for the opening period, but defended well, and took the lead with a try from skipper Chris Wearmouth on their first visit to the Sheffield 22 after 20 minutes.
Wearmouth grabbed his second from a forward drive after 36 minutes, Josh Leslie's conversion giving the hosts a 12-0 interval lead.
Sheffield hit back right at the start of the second half, the forwards camping on the Tynedale line before releasing the ball along the line for Alfie Kimpson to touch down, Elliot Fisher converting.
A good break by Robert Parker after 47 minutes split the Sheffield defence, sending in Leslie for a try he converted himself to put Tynedale 19-7 ahead.
Sheffield came back well, with a good period of pressure ending with a try for replacement Matthew Adcock with 53 minutes gone.
A simple 30m penalty miss allowed relieved Sheffield to set up camp in the Tynedale 22, and after being rebuffed by some excellent tackling, Adcock grabbed his second try in injury time, and a cool conversion by Fisher ensured the game ended all square.
