Tynedale Rugby Club is a very well managed organisation which is often quoted as an exemplar when rugby is discussed by the rugby fraternity in the North-East or in rugby clubs further afield. Unfortunately this façade masks some serious problems and the General Committee are making strenuous efforts to address a number of issues.
Our club is efficiently run by a handful of dedicated and very hardworking members; for many years I have thought that about 10 people in the organisation are extremely industrious, 10 individuals work quite hard and the remaining 280 of us do nothing but complain when things don't always go right. At times the work-loads of some of the club's officials are almost intolerable.
A large number of people living in the Tynedale area get great enjoyment from watching and following Tynedale Rugby Club but most supporters probably don't realise some of the difficulties involved in the day-to-day management of the club. An organisation like Tynedale RFC has a large number of individuals of differing ages and backgrounds who have much to offer; most members have some ability or skills which could be used by the club. More of us need to get involved.
The club would like to know who is prepared to work for Tynedale Rugby Club and the capacities in which they will serve. The General Committee have therefore decided to construct a list of members who are willing to give up some of their valuable time to the club. Until recently I was a member of the Great Whingeing Majority but since being given an ASBO, my Probation Officer tells me that I need to keep off the streets and I have agreed to act as Volunteer Co-ordinator at Tynedale. I have been in discussion with the Mini-Junior Section of the club about the format of our proposed data-base and we recently mounted an exercise to determine the support that individuals are prepared to give. So far the response has been disappointing and I am again asking members to consider playing a part, however small, in the running of the club.
Anyone who is willing to do any sort of work at Tynedale will be welcomed with open arms. We need gatemen for match days, stewards for our special events but we particularly require people who are prepared to chair a small working group or to sit on such bodies. Tynedale has an ongoing problem to meet our financial commitments and if we have any ambition to improve our facilities or to play at a higher level in the National Leagues, we must be prepared to meet the concomitant increase in expenses which promotion will bring. Most of these small committees will be involved in activities which will try to ensure that the club is financially secure.
I mentioned earlier the nine or ten members who work very hard at Tynedale Park. One of the few things that we cannot seem to manage well is finding individuals who have the skills and energy to carry out the difficult and essential main offices of the club. As the holders of most of these important posts are now looking forward to a telegram from the Queen, succession planning is an issue that Tynedale must, once more, try to address. It would be terrific if a few more members who recently played at Tynedale, or even current players, could think seriously about becoming administrators. It's even more enjoyable being an Alikadoo than playing - and if you believe that you'll believe………..!
The organisation of Tynedale Rugby Club is carried out by a handful of volunteers and as the club's fundraising activities become more important and our day-to-day business is increasingly complicated, it is essential that more members come forward to help in the running of the club. We need to know who is prepared to help and the questionnaire (downloadable here) has been designed to determine those individuals who are willing to give some of their valuable time to facilitate the smooth running of the club. I should be grateful if you would complete it.
If you have any ideas or views on any of these issues, please do not hesitate to approach me at the club or by telephone on 01434-632139.
Keith Laidler, Volunteer Coordinator, Tynedale RFC

It was a day to remember at Tynedale Park on Saturday 19th April 2008 with the FirstXV being presented with the National Three (North) championship trophy after the 22-7 home victory over Fylde.
The occasion was a real special one for the club with the Raiders being presented with the UBS Wealth Management 2ndXV CANDY League trophy.
Presenting the trophies was ex-England and Lions captain Bill Beaumont, who is currently Vice-Chairman of the International Rugby Board (IRB). Rugby legend Bill was able to make use of a rare 'free' weekend to combine the supporting of his club Fylde and his son Sam, who plays No 8 for Fylde, with the presentation duties.

Over the season 40 different players have represented the 1stXV in league matches and the these players voted for the "Players' Player of the Year" award which was sponsored by the John Lewis Partnership. The voting resulted in a tie with Jack Harrison and Tim Swinson topping the poll. Managing Director of the John Lewis and Waitrose Partnership John Hayes presented the awards to Jack and Tim.
With the Hoppers topping their league, tremendous performances from all the teams in the youth section and the County Senior cup and Senior Shield plus the under 9 and under 15 cups returning to Tynedale there really is a lot to celebrate.
The 1st XV will need to travel to Cornwall two, possibly three, times next season. The club is investigating the costs of flying from Newcastle Airport to Newquay as an option, with transfer from Newquay by coach.
We think that there will be space for supporters, if we are able to give the airline sufficient notice, at a cost of between £100 and £135.
Unfortunately dates are not yet available .
If anyone is interested in taking up a supporters place on the flights please contact Douglas Hamilton (01661 852017), John Shotton(01434 607546) or E-Mail the club at tynedalerfc@hotmail.com.
John Inverdale, writing in the Telegraph, has suggested that Tynedale could be a serious contender for the title of 'most idyllic sporting venue in the country'.
In his piece, where he acknowledges our promotion to National Division Two, he talks about our 'spectacular Northumberland home', describes our location as 'this glorious part of the North-East' and rightly points out that we are just a few miles from the geographical centre of Great Britain.
Things are really looking good!

Cameron was severely injured in the Blaydon v Redruth National League 2 match at Crow Trees on 27th October 2007. Fortunately, the spinal injuries, though serious, were less traumatic than had first been feared.
All at Tynedale will wish Cameron a full and speedy recovery.
Before joining Blaydon this season the flying winger was a valued and extremely popular member of the Tynedale squad - Tynedale players were swift to respond a fortnight ago when news of Cameron's injury first filtered through.

TYNEDALE Rugby Club stalwart John Saunders has become president of the Northumberland Rugby Union for season 2007-2008. John is currently the Club's archivist and was a very popular President of Tynedale between 1992 and 1994.
John, a retired Northern Gas executive, who lives in Hexham with his wife Fay, succeeds Wes Dixon of Ponteland.
John's playing career as a dashing centre was over long before he moved North, and he became involved with Tynedale as a coach with the infant mini-section in the 1970s.
John's son Ed was a star wing forward for Tynedale in the 1980s, and his grandsons Milo and Hector Barnett are involved with the present mini-section.
Away from the rugby field, John is a passionate game fisherman, and a former Hexham Courant angling correspondent.
Ali Johnson opened the club's £350,000 new facilities in a ceremony before the game against Preston Grasshoppers and a film crew from the BBC were on hand to record the events.

The new developments include additional changing rooms, referees rooms, revamped toilets, a new meeting room and disabled access. Much of the new development was a joint venture with Corbridge United junior football team and has come as a result of generous funding from a variety of sources, chief amongst them being:-
Chief Executive Douglas Hamilton gave a brief
address before Ali Johnson officially opened the facilities and
unveiled a plaque to commemorate the event.
The day was ended with an emphatic win for Tyndale who now enter the last game of the season next week with the best defensive record in the National Leagues!
The improvement in the club's disabled access and disabled facilities, and the building of two new changing-rooms and associated showers, toilets, referees room etc were completed on 26th October 2007.

Andrew Robson
Tragically Andrew was killed in a road traffic accident during the early hours of Sunday 1st July. Andrew was a passenger in a taxi which left the road - the taxi driver also died.
Our thoughts are with Andrew's wife, Laura, their nine month old son, William , and the rest of Andrew's family during this dreadfully tragic and sad time.

John Lee

John, our groundsman, died in hospital on Sunday 8th April (Easter Sunday) after suffering a stroke.
John, as well as being a conscientous groundsman who was justifiably very proud of his ground, was a popular personality at the club with his very own dry brand of humour. It is difficult to imagine match days at Tynedale Park without John's presence - he will be sadly missed.
The system of allocation of international match tickets for Grade A matches at Twickenham has changed. Clubs will receive a fixed allocation based on the average number of tickets issued for the 6 Nations matches over the past three seasons.
The club is to apply for its full entitlement and the Management Committee will allocate tickets tp applicants with priority being given to those members who have been seen in recent years to contribute most to developing rugby within the club.
More details are posted on the Club's notice board.
Edward Robson will be selling Tynedale RFC shirts, bags, jackets, ties, scarves and a whole range of garments and memorabilia in the clubhouse both before and after First XV home matches.
New stock has just been purchased and it is well worth inspection for range, quality and value. Edward can be contacted on 01434 604118.

The Club has signed-up to an exciting fundraising initiative, which pays commission to the club on any purchase made through an online web shop which has been created for the club by Perfiliate Technologies Limited.
The web shop contains a wide range of merchants, including many household names such as Comet, Marks and Spencer, Cotton Traders, Amazon, and Dabs. A vast variety of goods can be purchased ranging from cars, holidays, flights and furniture to toys, books, CD's, DVD's, sportswear and quality lingerie!
To access the web shop click here or on any of the many links dotted throughout this site and then simply follow the links to the merchant's sites - where you can browse around and buy at your leisure.
For those new to Internet shopping it's safe, secure, cheap and convenient with prices normally well below high street prices.
(eg. The COMET internet shop offers a wide range of electrical goods, often at prices BELOW the competitive prices already on offer at it's own High Street stores)
