Tynedale RFC Colts

Colts rugby has been the lifeblood of the senior club for many years. It has been ran since its inception by John Clark, Jim Bell and numerous coaches who have ensured an excellent standard of colts rugby, huge enjoyment for innumerable youngsters, and a steady flow of talented players into the adult teams.

The whole Tynedale community has taken pride in the Colts set-up and the achievements of the players. The players come from mini and junior rugby, and from Hexham, Prudhoe and Haydon Bridge High Schools but any youngster, whatever his rugby background, will be welcomed at Thursday weekly coaching sessions. They will be able to particiapate in weekly matches with interesting fixtures in the Borders and throughout the region, and to take part in Sevens festivals at the start and end of the season.

Many players go on to represent Tynedale and the County in senior rugby - but all will admit to having enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends, travel and have a lot of fun - whatever their ability.

 Bits and Pieces

Colts win Cup Double

Tynedale Colts recorded a cup double when they added the Northumberland County Colts Cup to their East of Scotland Cup with a convincing 42-3 demolition of Morpeth Colts in the final played at Ponteland on Sunday 22nd April 2007.

The Tynedale youngsters scored 8 tries in their victory. To reach the final Tynedale had convincing victories over Berwick Colts (40-10) and Percy Park Colts (33-5).

LOCHCARRON of Scotland EAST OF SCOTLAND CUP

Tynedale Colts defeated Kelso Harlequins 17-15 in the final on Saturday 31st March in an extremely close and exciting match. Kelso went into a 15-0 lead after only 12 minutes of the match but Tynedale forced their way back into the game and scored the winning converted try with only 4 minutes of normal time remaining.

For the first time the Lochcarron of Scotland East of Scotland Cup has been expanded to include the Edinburgh Under 18 League teams in a new East Region tournament.

The original concept of the tournament was to ensure clubs still have competitive fixtures in the latter part of the season, once the league programme was completed and the District Under 18 and National Under 17 & Under 18 Programmes began.

The ten semi-junior clubs will this season be joined by the ten Edinburgh Under 18 league clubs and also Duns Colts who, thanks to some excellent development work by both club and school, are looking to resurrect their Under 18 side.

Teams are split into four pools with the pool winners progressing to semi finals of the Cup and runners up to the Plate semi-finals to be played in March.
