The 1stXV head down into North Lincolnshire this Saturday when we take on Scunthorpe who have returned to our league this season after a gap of five seasons,, or six years, following their relegation at the end of the Covid affected 2019-2020 season.
While the Raiders are also on their travels we are delighted to welcome to Tynedale Park our good friends from Alnwick who play against our Hadrians.

SCUNTHORPE RUFC
Scunthorpe gained promotion from a competitive Regional 1 North East last season. They finished 2 points above Huddersfield, in second place, winning 17 of their 22 matches with a healthy points difference of +340.
Runners-up Huddersfield also won 17 of their 22 matches but picked up only 2 losing bonus points from their 5 matches lost whist Scunthorpe secured 4.

In the 7 Sept 2002 match at Corbridge the Scunthorpe captain and No.8 that day, Phil Sidebottom, had played 28 times for the Scunthorpe first fifteen the previous season (2001/02), being an ever present in all league and other matches. He appeared as a No.4, No.5, No.6 and a No.7 – but not as a No.8!

SCUNTHORPE THIS SEASON
Its fair to say that following their promotion into National 2 North things have not really gone Scunthorpe’s way and they are currently at the bottom of the league table having lost 9 of their 10 games played. Injuries have not been kind to Scunthorpe and their recent victory at Hull suggests they may see a brighter future.
One thing is for sure that Tynedale will be facing a fired-up side desperate to get their season up and running.
