OBITUARIES

J.R (RUFUS) HALL
When Rufus Hall died on the 6th. October 2020, aged 93 years, Tynedale RFC lost one of its oldest ex-players. A huge, powerful man, Rufus played almost anywhere in the forwards, and represented the club for more than 20 years. Latterly he was Captain of the 3rdXV, where he took great pride in encouraging (and protecting) junior players.
When his playing days were over Rufus turned to refereeing, and in the 1970’s he was a club Coach, Selector and Team Manager. ” Player, Referee, Coach, Selector, Team Manager, supporter, rugby enthusiast and resolute Tynedale man” was how his daughter Lindsey described him.
Rufus first played senior rugby at Ryton when he was 17 years old and always maintained lifelong links with Ryton RFC. He also had strong ties with Northern FC especially, and many other clubs. He was delighted that two nephews followed him into club rugby; Malcolm Thompson to Ryton and Peter Henderson to Tynedale. However he was proudest that his son Jonathan turned out for the Blue & Whites, before playing for Headingley, Esher, Bedford and Old Verulamians latterly.
Rufus’s late wife Helen was also an enthusiastic Tynedale stalwart and helper in support of her husband and son.

BRIAN WALKER
Brian Walker, who died on the 5 th February 2021 aged 89 years was one of Tynedale’s most generous benefactors – firstly by way of personal donations and then by sponsorship through his printing company, Harlow Printing Ltd.
Brian was proud of his grandsons Jamie and Jack (Harrison) who both played junior and senior rugby at the club. Jack also played for Northumberland County at all levels and represented England with the England Counties team. He was Captain of Tynedale in Season 2010/11.

ROBIN LYMBURN
Robin Lymburn died on 18th February 2021 at his home in Woolsington, aged 91 years.
Robin played as a centre – three-quarter for Tynedale from the mid 1950's, and was club captain in the 1960/61 season. He was mentioned in the 'Scottish Connections' article on the club web-site.
Most of his working life was spent on the riverside, working for the Tyne Improvement Commission, which became the Port of Tyne Authority in 1968.

PAUL DAVISON
Paul Davison who died on the 27th March 2021 following several years of poor health had been a staunch supporter of the club since the 1960s, firstly as a player then as Team Manager and Ground Assistant. He was a Vice-President of the club for a number of years. His brother Marcus also played for Tynedale for many years and remains a keen supporter.
Paul's first match in the 1st. XV was, surprisingly, as wing-forward when Tynedale beat Old Novos at Dene Park by 16-11 on 27th. September 1969. Paul scored one of the tries. That season he alternated between prop and back-row, before he became established as a prop in the following years. He was 4th XV Captain in season 1984/5.
Paul leaves a wife, Maureen, daughters Joanne and Helen and four grandchildren.

The 2020-2021 season never took place because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
