Tynedale Rugby Club – Alex Bond
How has this volunteer gone above and beyond to contribute to the development of the club?
Alex is the stand out volunteer in our club (against stiff competition too). She is the most positive of people and regardless of a situation will have a smile on her face. She makes every aspect of the work we do fun, whilst maintaining discipline and fairness and diplomacy. Regardless of what is going on in her own life she seems to have unlimited time for the club and finds a solution to every problem; whether that is entirely cost free games and fundraising ideas, joint club training sessions to help out other clubs with teams in need, spreading the skills of her coaches to others on opposing teams, fun days or help with paperwork processing days. Alex is always modest and doesn’t have an ego to massage ever. She is a gift to our club and we are so entirely grateful for her.
What impact has this had on the club and what achievements has this contributed to?
The message that Alex sends to the children in her group is so strong; that of fairness, inclusivity and the elements of TREDS, ahead of wins. The group has grown considerably and training together rather than facing opposition they know games could be won over. Alex has time for the club and individual players over and above herself. Working at various charities she has a wealth of knowledge and experience of fundraising, recruiting new players, games, events, so many innovative ways to help the club as a whole.
Final Thoughts!
I haven’t ever seen Alex without a smile on her face, even on days and at times she absolutely could have had, whether that’s her own troubles or the tough times we sometimes face at the club. Her attitude is an inspiration to adults not just children.
Tynedale Rugby Club – Chris Lynch
How has this volunteer gone above and beyond to contribute to the development of the club?
From the moment he arrives (always first) to the time he finally locks up (always last), Chris is quietly raising standards across the whole senior section. He takes care of the unglamorous jobs that nobody notices when they’re done well - but everybody would notice instantly if they weren’t. He arranges the laundry for all senior playing kit without fault, ensuring every team has exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
Chris also works closely with kit suppliers to make sure Tynedale’s teams are presented at their best, helping the club look professional and unified every time they take the field. He fights battles for players that they will never even see - smoothing problems before they become distractions, protecting the squad’s focus, and creating an environment where players and coaches can simply get on with what they love.
What impact has this had on the club and what achievements has this contributed to?
And it doesn’t stop with senior rugby. Chris is always happy to step into other areas of the club - preparing the ground and clubhouse for home match days alongside fellow volunteers, or banging the drum for club socials and events that keep the community thriving.
Final Thoughts!
Clubs are built on people like Chris Lynch: dependable, selfless, and committed to making everyone around him better. Tynedale RFC is incredibly fortunate to have him… and, as the coaches will tell you, they like him even more now his native Wales can’t win a game.
