The Cow Pat Challenge Returns – Saturday 11th April
There are few things at Tynedale quite like it… and on Saturday 11th April the Cow Pat Challenge is back at the club.
Following the final home 1st XV match against Scunthorpe, don’t go anywhere — because from 18:00, the pitch becomes the stage for one of the club’s most talked-about (and unpredictable) new traditions.
Taking charge of proceedings is Jack Walton, auctioneer, commentator, and the perfect man to guide us through the drama, the tension… and the inevitable chaos.

So, What’s It All About?
It’s beautifully simple.
Every £10 ticket sold is allocated to a square on the 1st XV pitch. Then, with the crowd gathered and anticipation building, Clarence the Cow is led onto the field.
There’s a brief moment to settle — a 10-minute “pat amnesty” to calm the nerves (hers and yours) — before the claxon sounds.
And then… we wait.
Encouraged (and occasionally negotiated with) by Jack and his team of rodeo-style drovers, Clarence roams the pitch. One decision. One moment. One square.
Where she chooses… is everything.
That square wins £1,000 CASH.

More Than Just a Laugh
While the spectacle is unforgettable, the impact is just as important.
Every ticket sold supports Tynedale RFC:
• Half goes towards improving the clubhouse, bar, and facilities
• The other half goes directly back to the teams selling tickets
In 2024, the Cow Pat Challenge raised over £18,000, helping fund a once-in-a-lifetime tour to Canada for 47 players.

Expect a Crowd, Expect a Roar
The grid will be on display in the clubhouse throughout the day, so you can check your square and start backing your patch of grass.
As the moment builds, the crowd gathers, the tension rises… and when Clarence finally makes her move, you’ll hear it — a cheer like no other at Tynedale Park.
The bar will be open, music will be playing, and there will be plenty of fun to be had. This is a truly family-focused evening, and we encourage everyone across the club — players, parents, supporters, and friends — to come along and be part of it.
