PETER JOHNSON FENWICK

PETER JOHNSON FENWICK

Wallace Cousin27 Mar - 12:58

16 Nov 1948 – 20 Mar 2025

Tynedale RFC are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Fenwick on Thursday 20th March 2025.

Despite leaving the area many years ago Peter continued to be one of the club's most loyal and reliable members. He retained his full club membership right through, including this season, plus he always supported the Club where he could and was a regular sponsor of players.

Peter was raised in Hexham and learned his rugby at Dame Allans School, Fenham. He played for Tynedale as a second-row forward in the mid 1960's starting around 1963. When we measured players at pre-season training in 1964 he was the tallest (6'3) and the heaviest (15st7lbs) - not big at all now!

His last game for the club was for the 2ndXV on 21st. September 1968 in the back-row v North Durham II. After his playing days Peter was heavily involved as a coach and administrator with both Tynedale Colts and the County Colts.

Peter worked as an Accountant with Royal Ordnance at Birtley (now British Aerospace) before in 1984 his work took him away to Kent initially. After he moved he watched Tynedale whenever he came to see his mother, who continued to live in Hexham.
Peter also supported the team at away matches in Cornwall and at Cinderford after he moved to Hampshire. I last saw Peter when I sat with him and his wife, Zoe, in the stand at Luctonians. They had arranged to spend the weekend in Leominster so that they could support the team.

They lived in Medstead, East Hampshire where Peter has been a Parish Councillor for many years.

So far as rugby was concerned he was a true blue and white devotee. That's for certain.

RIP Peter
