The RFU have changed the promotion and relegation system which will be applied to our 1stXV’s league (National 2 North).at the end of this season.
A significant change is the return of the play-offs which will operate (in our league) at both ends of the table for promotion and relegation.
A more detailed document describing the new system, as it affects our league, can be downloaded/viewed from the foot of this page but it is summarised as follows:-

AUTOMATIC PROMOTION/RELEGATION
The winners of our league will be automatically promoted into National 1.

The bottom three teams in National 1 will be automatically relegated into the National 2 leagues. (the geographic location of the relegated teams will be a major factor in deciding which of the three National 2 leagues they will be relegated into)

The bottom two teams in our league will be automatically relegated into a Regional 1 League.

The winners of the two Regional 1 Leagues which feed our league will be automatically promoted into our league.

PLAY-OFFS
The teams finishing runners-up in the three National 2 Leagues will enter a play-off along with the team that finishes fourth bottom in National 1 League. The winners of this 4-team knock-out play-off will play the following season in National 1, the others will play in National 2.

The team finishing third bottom in our league will play a single game play-off against the winners of a play-off between the runners-up in the two regional leagues feeding our league. The winners will play the following season in National 2, the losers will play in one of the Regional 1 leagues
