Our first tasting of rugby at Tynedale Park for the new 2024-2025 season comes this Saturday when Heriot’s bring two sides down from Edinburgh to play against our 1stXV and Raiders in back-to-back games.

TWO PAST MATCHES

Back in I991 and 1992 Tynedale 1st XV played two matches at Tynedale Park against a club who were called Heriots FP.

The first match, on Saturday 5th January 1991 resulted in a win for Tynedale, which gave them revenge for the defeat at Goldenacre in North Edinburgh the previous season.

The teams in 1991 were:-

HERIOTS FP C. Newton; D. Robeson, A. McRobbie, D. Stoddart, P. Hewitt; N. Marshall, A Watt; M. Livingstone, I Shand, S. Paul; K. MacAuley, I Binnian; S. Hurt, A. Snow, C. Turnbull. Rep. D. Livingstone, G. Smith.

The Tynedale team included Gary Taylor and Graeme Yates – now Vice-Presidents of the club, Craig Johnston, now in complete charge of Bar and Grounds, and Richard Parker and Martin White, whose sons have been in the Tynedale 1stXV squad for some time.

Heriots FP were missing captain Kenny Milne, his brother David Milne and fly-half Cameron Glasgow who were playing in a Scottish trial match at Murrayfield.

For the second match, on Saturday 12th. September 1992, which Tynedale won more easily, 46-5, new players for Tyne were Gary Fleming, John Fletcher, Chris Leslie, Andy Oglethorpe, Paul Leonard, Mickey Lee and Chris Dixon.
Chris Leslie’s son Josh now plays for the Tynedale first fifteen. Interesting how things turn full circle.
