After the success of last year’s fantastic event we are thrilled that the Wooden Spoon’s annual vets tournament is returning to Tynedale Park this September.

100’s of Vets players from the UK and Ireland will compete in Men’s, Women’s, Vintage Vets(over 50’s) and Walking-Rugby tournaments on Saturday 26th September 2026.

Teams will start to arrive on Friday & the rugby will get underway around 10am on Saturday morning, going on until around 7pm.

Each Wooden Spoon ‘Region’ is invited to enter a team & commit to a fundraising effort ahead of the event. The Overall Winners will be the team with the best combined score from their on-pitch and off-field efforts.

Alongside the event, a programme of entertainments will take place in the marquee alongside the 1st XV pitch with food and drinks aplenty on offer.

The Wooden Spoon is a grant making charity which benefits 100s of thousands of children annually. The Spoon is close to the hearts of many at Tynedale RFC and they have supported projects on our doorstep including Sensory Gardens and Minibuses for the Priory School in Hexham.

The Wooden Spoon remains a chosen charity of the Rugby Club with the proceeds from the collection, raffle and auction held at the recent 150th Anniversary Ball going to the charity.

The club will require a large volunteer effort before, after and on the day. From Car Parking to Pint-Pulling, we expect to welcome over 1,000 people to the club on the day. More details on how you can help will be shared as the event approaches.
