Report taken from "The Rugby Paper":-
After two successive defeats, Ionians bounced back to winning ways in impressive style with a six-try demolition of in-form Tynedale.
While the Tynedale forwards held their own, the Ionians back division dominated throughout.
Tynedale started brightly and took a fourth minute lead when Rory Cramb found himself in acres of space on the right and crossed unchallenged. Jake Rodgers converted from the touchline but Tynedale were soon brought down to earth. James Thompson replied immediately with two tries in a five minute spell, the second one converted by Ben Smith, and the Humbersiders had the four-try bonus point in the bag in just over the half-hour, with well worked tries for Jack Townend and Sam Wilson for a 22-7 lead. Tynedale hit back just before the interval when with referee, Ben Davis, playing an advantage, Rodgers hoisted a speculative crossfield kick which was gobbled up by Ben Bell, who ran in under the posts for a converted try to make it 22-14 at the break.
Ionians extended their lead after 51 minutes through the excellent Sam Pocklington, and went further ahead on the hour when good driving play and quick hands saw replacement Lucas Powell in for their sixth try.
Tynedale refused to lie down, and good forward pressure brought their third try through replacement Callum Burke.
Tynedale staged a grandstand finish in the hope of salvaging a bonus point, but while they were over the line, superb Ionians defence prevented them from grounding the ball.
