Report taken from "The Rugby Paper":-
Tynedale paid the price for a woeful first half, and although they improved in the second period, they left themselves with far too much to do.
Ionians took the lead in the first minute with a Lewis Minikin penalty, and put Tynedale under pressure for the rest of the half, taking full advantage of the frequent fumbles and misplaced kicks from the Northumbrians.
Star man Minikin added his second penalty after 24 minutes before an interception gave Sam Pocklington an easy run in from half-way two minutes later.
Tynedle managed to get on the scoresheet on the half-hour when Joe Beaty twisted over for Cam Grant to convert, but the Tynedle defence was nowhere to be seen when first Tom Winch and then Minikin ran in under the posts to give the visitors a 27-7 interval lead.
Owen Vassallo crashed over to give Tynedale hope at the start of the second half, with Beaty adding his second try but two more Minikin penalties kept Ionians in front.
Tynedale thought they had scored after sustained forward pressure but referee David Charlton ruled the ball had been held up, and it took an injury-time try from Alex Dryden to salvage two losing bonus points.
