HULL’S HISTORY
Although Hull RUFC was founded as recently as July 1992 it arose from the merger of longer established Hull Clubs. The changes began in Spring 1989 when Hull & East Riding (Tynedale’s opponents on a regular basis in friendlies in the 1970’s and 1980’s and in league matches when leagues were formed in 1987) merged with Ionians RUFC to form Hull Ionians.
However, 28% of the club members voted against the merger and reformed Hull & East Riding who existed for only 3 years before merging with Old Hymerians in July 1992 to form Hull RUFC.
HULL v TYNEDALE
Saturday’s match is the ninth league fixture between Tynedale RFC and Hull RUFC, matches which began in September 2019 when Hull were promoted into Tynedale’s league.
The 2018/19 Season had finished with Hull crowned champions of the Northern Premier Division. That season had actually begun with an opening day defeat for Hull before twenty-one consecutive wins followed. They completed twelve doubles on the way to the title and were confirmed as champions with four games remaining. A fine final playing record read 24 wins and 2 defeats from 26 games.
So, promotion and League fixtures began between Tynedale RFC and Hull RUFC. The first four fixtures all ended in Hull victories, but Tynedale turned this around in November 2023 with a win at Ferens.

Its fair to say that Hull have had a disappointing start to the season with their only victory being a home win over Billingham. There’s little doubt that they will be fired up this weekend as they look to kick-start their season.
