OTLEY RUFC v TYNEDALE RFC

After the festive break our 1stXV swing back into action this Saturday with a relatively short journey into West Yorkshire to take on our old friends from Otley.
While the 1stXV are on the road we welcome to Alnwick and Ryton to Tynedale Park who take on our Raiders and Hadrians in important top-of-the-table CaNDY League clashes. We also, of course, extend a warm welcome to the match officials.

Even earlier against a very strong Sheffield team, on 22. November 2025, Tyne were only beaten 8-14, depriving the runaway League leaders of a 4-try bonus for the first time this season. (Triumphans 3 from 4)

OTLEY RUFC

CROSS GREEN
Otley RUFC’s ground hosted the famous North 21-9 victory over the All Blacks in 1979. The North were the only team to beat the New Zealanders on that eleven- match tour.
Otley also hosted the North v Australia match in 1988 and the Italy v USA tie in the 1991 Rugby World Cup.

TYNE’S FIRST EVER LEAGUE MATCH WAS AGAINST OTLEY
On the 12 September 1987 the very first league match for Tynedale happened to be against Otley, and took place at Cross Green in North Division One. Otley won 24-0.

(In 1988-89 Tynedale were runners up to Kendal. Otley finished sixth).
