HULL’S HISTORY
Although Hull RUFC was founded in 1992 it arose from the merger of longer established Hull Clubs.
The changes began in Spring 1989 when Hull & East Riding (Tynedale’s opponents on a regular basis in friendlies in the 1970’s and 1980’s and in league matches when leagues were formed in 1987) merged with Ionians RUFC to form Hull Ionians.
However, 28% of the club members voted against the merger and reformed Hull & East Riding. That club survived for only 3 years before merging with Old Hymerians in July 1992 to form Hull RUFC.

2008 AND ALL THAT
The year 2008 may have been a dreadful year for Natural Disasters all over the world, and for financial crises and bank bail-outs, but in Tynedale and Hull’s tiny rugby world it was a time when the two clubs flourished.

For Tynedale, 2008 was the year that the 1st XV won promotion to National One- (level 3 in the Leagues), where they stayed for seven seasons.

For Hull RUFC it meant a move from the old Haworth Park premises described above, to their present Ferens ground, a change which seemed to inspire the club on the field as they were promoted from North East Div.3 to National League Two (North) in the 2008/09 season
Rugby had been played at Haworth Park from 1925 when the former pupils of Hymers College decided to start the Old Hymerians Association and was their home venue until 2008.

CUP MATCHES BETWEEN TYNEDALE AND HULL
The clubs had played twice in the Cup before meeting in those league fixtures. Both cup matches were played at Haworth Park, before Hull moved to their present Ferens ground in 2008.

HULL THIS SEASON
Hull have had a disappointing season to date and last week’s defeat at Scunthorpe dropped them to second bottom so relegation is a definite possibility.
Throughout the season Hull have failed to reach any consistency although their home form is lots better where they have recorded victories over Billingham, Otley and Fylde and were noticeably impressive in their last home outing when they ran league leaders Sheffield close for the majority of the match.

Tynedale expect a close, tough encounter. Hull will be targeting successes in their remaining home matches.
