Tynedale 12, Darlington Mowden Park 55.

Hopes of a opening home win to boost Tynedale’s 150 th anniversary celebrations were
ruthlessly dashed by a very good Mowden Park outfit.

The visitors, bristling with youngsters dual registered with Newcastle Red Bulls academy ,
ran in nine tries to leave Tynedale chasing shadows.

Electrifying pace, quick hands and good distribution gave them the edge in all departments,
as shell-shocked Tyne were 36-0 within less than half an hour.
Park even survived having three players yellow carded within a minute at the end of the
first half to inflict Tynedale’s heaviest home defeat in years.

It was a day to forget for the Blue and Whites, as tackles were missed, kicks misplaced and
the lineout was something of a shambles throughout.
To make things worse, several of the visitors, including try scorers Jacob Oliver and Ben
Douglas, along with Harrison Wood, Charlie Turnbull and Liam Checksfield, were once
Tynedale’s books!

Tynedale started brightly enough, but in the third minute, a good break from midfield put
lightning winger Mark Williams s in for a try, converted by full back Charlie Dineen.
Six minutes later opposite wing Alfie Warwick blasted in from a blind side break and on 15
minutes, another fine break saw Dineen coast in for a try he converted himself to open up a
19-0 lead.

A string of missed tackles brought the bonus point try for Warwick on 18 minutes before
two tries in four minutes from fly half Junior Newton saw Tynedale in big trouble at 36-0
down.
Tynedale did rally strongly at the end of the half, applying good pressure on the Park line,
resulting in a string of penalties before referee Andrew Shaw’s patience ran out, and he
awarded a penalty try.
The decision sparked a tussle, which saw ex Tynedale men Turnbull and Checksfield yellow
carded along with teammate Elvis Kitenge-Fuki..

Even with three extra players, Tynedale were able to make little inroad into the 26-7
interval deficit, other than a 44 th minute try from a forward drive for replacement Tom
Campbell which sparked further fisticuffs,

Once restored to full complement, Park stretched away again with another try for Williams,
a stroll in for ex Tynedale scrum half Ben Douglas and number nine from former Tynedale
favourite Jacob Oliver.

There were few crumbs of comfort for Tynedale, although centre Joe Beaty did put in some
crunching tackles.

Tynedale 12 – 55 DMP

A superb DMP performance, particularly in the opening 30 minutes, set up a thoroughly deserved victory - 34 unanswered points by the 29-minute mark rather tells the story.

Sitting with Steve Douglass in the stand helped sweeten the blows. He was suitably magnanimous while watching his "worky ticket" son Ben lead from the front. Must be something in the DNA. Memories of Simon Clayton-Hibbott

Tynedale came back strongly in the final 10 minutes of the first half, with yellow cards being scattered like confetti as the Tynedale scrum worked itself up into a bit of a froth, but that was about it.

To be fair, the DMP lads scored a collection of brilliant tries and certainly made amends for last season’s performances. The A68 is now officially reopened to Teesside. My humble pie.
Harsh to single out a MOM from such a strong team performance, but I thought their young left-winger Warwick was a threat at every turn.
