Tynedale Raiders contested the Northumberland Senior County Cup Final on Wednesday and made Northern's finest work hard for their eventual victory.
Much to the surprise of a particularly strong home side, Raiders dominated the early exchanges and deservedly led 12-14 after 25 minutes thanks to excellent tries from Ross Cooke and Adam Todhunter, and a conversion from Cam Grant. Northern had to dig deep and resorted to the tee to edge ahead, before crossing the line to establish a narrow 20-14 lead at the break.
The second half ran away from Tynedale as an unfortunate run of injuries took its toll, compounded by the influence of the strong Northern bench. Nevertheless, Raiders stood tall and fought to the last, scoring once more as David Batey finished off a well worked driving maul. The extras were added by Grant, capping a terrific season of kicking from him.
Despite just missing out on the League & Cup double, Tynedale's 2nd XV, led magnificently by their inspirational Captain, Micky Hall, and charismatic Vice Captain, Jacob Brown, can be proud of their achievements, celebrate their successes, and look forward to going again in a few months time!
