The game got under way after an impeccably observed period of silence in memory of those that served their country, held on the first team pitch with all six teams involved in the three games and the officials taking part.
The Centurions took the lead after 5 minutes when, after good handling in the back line involving Mark Smales and Andy Harvey, new recruit Seb Jansen found space on the right wing to outpace the Blaydon defence to score a well worked try.
Captain Jake Sloan then added a second score to extend the lead and when Jansen scored a further try, Adam Todhunter adding the conversion it looked like Tynedale were going to cruise to an easy league victory.
Far from giving up, the Blaydon side began a spirited fight back and ran in two quick tries in five minutes, one converted to reduce the arrears to just five points. The Centurions front five of Jonny Pape, Charlie Rutherford, Ed Weir, Jason Armstrong and Keith Johnson were having to work hard to contain the Blaydon scrum, including former Tynedale first team tight head Paul Winter and with good support from George Hendry, Rhys Loughead, Martyn Hutton and Jacob Brown, scored the next decisive try through classy fly half Todhunter, he added the extra points to give Tynedale a 24 - 12 lead at the interval.
With a few changes at the break to allow the strong reserve bench to get an opportunity, Tynedale quickly got back into their stride and Jansen completed his hat trick of tries and Todhunter added the conversion to extend their lead. Once again the Blaydon side fought back and despite the efforts of Rory Craney, Toby Clifford and Ryan Laverty to stop the attack, the speedy winger sped through to score and with the conversion completed the Tynedale advantage was reduced to one score.
After the restart some strong runs by Adam Telfer, young full back Adam Shane, Ollie Hillary, Ben Common and Jonathan Gormley tested the Blaydon defence and finally Jansen received the ball in space to allow him to race home for a further try, Todhunter converted to give Tynedale a two score advantage. When Jansen added a further try to round off his man of the match performance he was replaced on the wing to receive the congratulations from the officials, supporters and replacements bench.
