NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COLTS CHAMPIONS FOR THE SECOND SUCCESSIVE SEASON
And so Tynedale Colts beat Alnwick Colts in the County Cup final at Percy Park last night and in doing so retained the Cup,
The squad were magnificent right from the start, each and everyone of the lads played their part in an amazing performance.
Alnwick have had a fantastic season up until 2 weeks ago, they have had a settled squad this season with little disruption from players unavailability due to school commitments. Unfortunately the wheels started to fall off for them a fortnight ago when they lost to Hawick in the league champion decider relegating them to a second place in the final league standings. The following week they could only manage a draw in the Border Cup semi final at home to Jed Thistle which meant Jed went through to this weekend's final due to the away team ruling. Last night was the final nail in the coffin for them and confirmed a nearly but not quite season.
Alnwick were overly confident due to the huge amount of injurys Tynedale had prior to the game, on paper Alnwick were clear favourites due to their form this season and having not won the county cup since 1983 were positive this season was their turn. Tynedale even lost their star center, Henry Smith, 3 hours before last night's game having taken a head knock in a school 7s tournament. BUT what oppositions forget is once a Tynedale jersey is pulled on, anything can happen ?
It would be wrong of me to mention individual Tynedale players as every single one of the boys were just magnificent. From the KO to the final whistle they tackled , drove and ran with the ball as true champions and under dogs do.
Alnwick lost there way when there only tactic didn't work and Tynedale just got better every minute. Even with 14 men on the pitch due to two yellow cards Tynedale were the better team.
Bo
All in all a good evening out and the Tynedale supporters as they appeared to enjoy the victory.
This coming Saturday we play our final 15 aside game up at Hawick in the Borders Finals day. Tynedale compete for this season's Bowl against Gala Colts, a hat-trick of wins is the aim of the day in what will be another stern test for your boys.
KO on Saturday is 12noon due to three finals being played during the day. Volunteer Park the home of Hawick colts is the neutral venue so get yourself along and cheer the boys on for their final game together.
Once again your commitment to support is hugely appreciated by the squad , it makes a difference.
