A fantastic day for Tynedale rugby under 10s teams. We went to Percy Park RFC for the last year, next year we will be at Rockcliffe RFC, some nice soft ground, no wind, and brilliant sunshine. We had enough boys turn up for two teams and split them into two. Our first kick off time was 1030 against Novos 1 with Tynedale 2 taken the lead match. A hard game to start with plenty of running and some good hard tackles from both sides, our rucking training was paying off with the boys driving over the opposition but the referees under instruction to allow free running play let them wander offside and steal the ball more than once. (Something to bear in mind when we train next, this will be a recurring theme through the year depending on referees.) The result of the match was in no doubt at the end with Tyne being the winners.
Match two was Tynedale 1 against Percy Park 1 start time 1100, we started off slowly allowing an easy try against us but soon found our stride and started running in some wonderful scores, with some brutal hits going in and some great rucking and counter rucking stealing the ball legally, we set up the win against a tough team.
Match three and four took place at 1130 Tyne 2 against Blyth and Tyne 1 against Novos 2. Blyth proved to be very tough opposition with the score being tied at the end after some serious tackling and running rugby on show. Novos were a good team and proved difficult to break down but with 2 or 3 big hits in the tackle they broke and Tyne ended as winners.
Match five was against Rockcliffe 2 with Tyne 1, this match was abandoned after 5 minutes due to a possible serious injury to a Rockcliffe player (Noah hope you are ok and on the mend. I will let people know his condition when I am informed)
Match six and seven was against Rockcliffe 1 with Tyne 2 taking good advantage of the running rugby they have been playing and put on a good winning display. Tyne 1 faced Carlisle, who proved they are a good team pushing for a win all through the match, Tyne came out on top after some good late runs and successful touchdowns.
Match eight Tyne 2 against Percy Park 2 was again a tough fought contest with both teams neither giving ground until late on with Tyne coming out on top.
matches nine and ten were against Northern 2 and 3. As usual Northern proved tough opponents but through some great tackling and some solid rucking both Tyne teams won the day, a fair yet hard contest between both teams.
The winner overall was the standard of rugby on display through out the day by all teams, all matches were played with fair yet tough rugby the Tynedale boys can be proud of their behaviour and achievements today. Well done boys you deserve the plaudits passed on from other teams coaches for your pressure of the opposition and free running play.
