1st XV Vs Broadstreet report

Jamie Dixon22 Feb 2016 - 10:00

Tynedale allowed relegation threatened Broadstreet to claw back some hope of beating the drop in a thriller at Kingston Park.

Tynedale 1st XV lost 40-34 at home to the second bottom side at their adopted home of Kingston Park.

Tynedale passed up the chance to put further breathing space between the teams occupying the dreaded drop zone with a lacklustre display for large spells.

All looked like Tynedale were going to run riot as they ran in two tries in the opening six minutes.

Yet they were second best for the remaining half an hour of the first half, Broadstreet running at them at will.

A penalty try, converted by Lee Chapman, put the visitors back to within three points, and they took the lead on 25 minutes through a break away try.

Broadstreet were nine points ahead at the break when they switched play to go over for try number three.

Broadstreet were celebrating a bonus point fourth try 11 minutes after the break, going a healthy 16 points ahead after another converted penalty try.

The teams exchanged converted tries, and Tynedale threatened a comeback as two tries put them to within four points with five minutes remaining.

But the 33-29 scoreline in the visitors' favour became 40-29 immediately, as Broadstreet again broke upfield to put them well in control.

Tynedale responded with a last minute try, but it came too late in the day as they had to settle for two losing bonus points only.
