Match Report

In a remarkable opening five minutes of this game the only Novos player to touch the ball was their fly-half as he kicked off and restarted the game. Corbridge scored four tries to effectively demoralise the opposition.

The tries were almost carbon copies as a deep kick found one of the Centurians biggest forwards, Pete Henderson, (twice), Jason Armstrong and Ed Cawthorne. Each time a powerful break led to quickly recycled ball and further yards gained by the rampaging front rowers Rory Craney, Owen Shield and Owen Loughead. As they were eventually halted, positive rucking saw quick ball distributed by half-backs Andy Harvey and Rhys Ward to release Ewan and Callum Morrell to burn off what little defence was left for a try apiece and winger Chris Nicholls scamper over for a brace.

After four attempts the desolate fly half kicked left instead of right to break the "groundhog day" sequence.

The home side then showed no little spirit and effort to restrict a rampant Corbridge side to only four more tries before the break. Another powerful surge from Shield saw Cawthorne on hand to score before Armstrong fed Shield who forced the ball against the base of the post for a try. Jake Sloan burst through to put Callum Morrell over before debutant Theo Nwosu-Hope showed a nice change of pace to cross wide out.

After the break the Centurians continued to hold the upper hand and could have had more than the three tries they scored had it not been for some dogged defending by the home team.

Hard work by Mark Smales and Charlie Harvey allowed Cawthorne to career over. Another fine break from Ewan Morrell was unselfishly handed on to the willing Nicholls who bagged his hat-trick. Finally, young Ewan got his well deserved second try, supporting well following good work from Graham Crosby and Robbie Nixon. Seven conversions were added by Callum Morrell, (5), Cawthorn and Ewan Morrell.
