A much changed Centurians side found themselves 0-19 down after only 25 minutes as they struggled to find any cohesion against a well organised visiting side that was based around a dozen or so talented University students.
The initial try came very early after first up tackles were missed around half way and, although full back Callum Young nailed a big hard-running centre, there was plenty of support on hand to score easily under the posts. A quickly taken tap penalty resulted in a second try as there appeared to be very little reaction to the apparent danger. The worst of these three early tries followed a Corbridge scrum that was hooked cleanly but a secondary shove by the Novos pack saw possession reversed. With very little defending around the fringes the ball was moved quickly wide for an easy try.
To their credit Corbridge held a forthright team meeting under the posts that appeared to have the desired effect and the rest of the game was evenly contested.
Strong running by centres Luke Murtough and Steven Raine took the home side deep in to the opposition 22 and when a penalty was awarded for a ruck offence this was quickly tapped and although the initial thrust was held Ben Horncastle darted in from close range.
In the second half Corbridge had several scoring attempts but the visitors were as doughty in defence as they were forceful in attack. Half-backs Andy Harvey and Graham Crosby prodded and prompted in attack whilst winger Ryan Laverty, prop Owen Shield and No 8 Ollie Hillary ran strongly to go close but were unable to get over.
When they did cross the line following good pressure from Harvey, they appeared to ground the ball but a 22 metre drop out was mysteriously awarded. This was lashed down field when Corbridge considered a "conversion" and the speedy Novos winger touched down at the other end .
The Centurians scored the second try that there efforts deserved when the forwards drove close after another tapped penalty and the ball was moved right to Chis Nicholls who touched down in the right hand corner.
They continued to attack and the driving work of replacement forwards Jason Armstrong, brothers Kieran and Andy Adams again took them close to the line without being able to cross. Novos again broke away to complete the scoring despite a magnificent covering tackle by Shield.
Once again the scoreline possibly flattered the opposition but they took advantage of early loose play from the Centurians and that lead could not be overturned.
