The largest Veterans Rugby Festival in the UK will take place at Tynedale RFC on Saturday 23rd August. In what will be the fifth edition of the Wooden Spoon’s event, Tynedale will host over 400 players, split between 12 Men’s and 8 Women's Teams, each competing for the title.

Following previous events at Old Reigatians & Moseley, it is the first time The Spoon have brought the event to the North of England & we couldn’t be happier that they chose Tynedale.

Teams will start to arrive on Friday & the rugby will get underway around 9am on Saturday morning, going on until around 7pm.

The day is billed as an unforgettable day of rugby, camaraderie, and community spirit.
Each Wooden Spoon ‘Region’ is invited to enter a team & commit to a fundraising effort ahead of the event. The Overall Winners will be the team with the best combined score from their on-pitch and off-field efforts.

The event is of course open to spectators & the Rugby will be underway from around 9am on the Saturday morning. The event will run on well into the evening, with some great entertainments, a bar care-of our brilliant Bar1876 team and a Tynedale Beer Festival Esque Food Village.

The Wooden Spoon is a grant making charity which benefits 100s of thousands of children annually. The Spoon is close to the hearts of many at Tynedale RFC. It remains a chosen charity of the proceeds from the incredible Stay Strong Stu effort & they have supported projects on our doorstep including Sensory Gardens and Minibuses for the Priory School in Hexham.
