Raiders enjoy day at seaside

Tynedale second string got back to winning ways with a dominant display against the Tynemouth club in glorious conditions. The Preston Avenue ground was bathed in glorious sunshine for the CANDY League fixture but the Corbridge outfit turned the heat up on the Park side and took the lead through a James Clarke try after 8 minutes which Cam Grant converted.

The hard working Charlie Richards extended the lead three minutes later, again Grant converted. Far from making life easy for the visitors, Park then came back into the game with a converted try.

The Raiders then forced the play and Charlie Richards touched down after forward pressure led by Dicky Dunn and James Crosby and promising hooker Toby Jowett, despite having injured his hip, Grant converted, trying hard to ignore the coach Ben Archer and physio Mattie Irving, both trying to get him to leave the field to avoid any further damage.

Then came the try of the game when Alex Dryden broke from deep in his own half, feeding Thomas Williams, who moved the ball to German debutant Niklas Hartwick who outpaced his opponent before he selflessly passed inside to prop Jonny Dodd who raced over for a great score, Grant converted. Another forward drive allowed Callum Morrell to touch down, Grant converting before an injury to Olly Wall forced him from the field to be replaced by David O'Neill. Some poor tackling in midfield allowed Park to apply pressure on the Tynedale line and after conceding a series of penalties the home side were rewarded with a try right on half time. The Raiders held a 35- 12 lead at the break.

At the interval Grant was withdrawn and Will Richards joined the back line. The first score of the half came from Dryden, now at ten, Clarke converted with a drop goal. When Tynedale were awarded a penalty to the right of the posts about 10 metres out, captain Jacob Brown caught everyone unawares and took the quick tap and charged, unopposed over the line to touchdown, a well deserved score for his usual tireless work rate in the game which so often goes unnoticed. The final change was made when youngster Will Jonas replaced Charlie Richards, the coach receiving a rapid response from his call to change personnel, the departing player immediately entered into a conversation with Grant on the sidelines who's hearing had recovered quicker than his stiff hip.

The lead was extended with a deserved score from scrum half Jake Turnbull, he converted himself, a knee injury to Will Richards meant that brother Charlie returned to the field. A break from man of the match Will Linton created the opening for Clarke to score his second try, he also converted his try.

A further two tries from Charlie Richards completed the scoring, taking his tally to four tries in the game to round off a great team performance with every player contributing to a victory against a Park side that contested to the final whistle and never gave up, much to their credit.
