Following the hard-fought victory of the previous week away to Alnwick, the Raiders looked forward to returning to Tynedale Park for the visit of Middlesbrough Wasps.
In recent seasons, the Teesside outfit have provided combative opposition with their sizeable pack of forwards presenting set piece and close quarter battles, so the Raiders fully expected a hard contest. Sadly, the game did not transpire this way as it quickly became a significant mis-match in playing speed and quality.
Indeed, from the kick-off the young Tynedale side scored from only the second phase and then again from the ensuing kick-off and this set the pattern for the match.
Rarely did the game get past three phases of possession before a decent Tynedale break, neat offload or good piece of footwork would lead to another score. The Raiders ran in 11 unanswered tries in the first half, of which Cam Grant kicked 10 conversions to lead 75-0 at the break.
A further 5 tries, 4 conversions and 20 minutes into the second half, both teams and the referee agreed to call the match early with a resounding 108-0 win to Tynedale.
Credit must go to Middlesbrough for continuing to battle away but they were quite simply blown away by a much slicker and more expansive Tynedale outfit.
Try scorers for Tynedale were: Owen Shield, skipper Finlay MaGowan, Ethan Clarke (2), Tom Robson (2), Callum Morrell, John Clarkson (2), Jamie Dixon, Ben Blackburn (3), Ed Cawthorn, Dicky Dunn and Cam Grant.
The Raiders have a week off next Saturday but then have the toughest of tests where they will be looking to repeat last season's feat of a rare victory away at Wharfedale.
