The first half was a real attritional affair with Robbie Binks, Ethan McLeod, Rory and Ed Craney having an arm-wrestle with heavier, experienced forward opposition.
Blyth kicked a penalty to lead before hooker Binks won a scrum against the head by kicking the prevalent squint feed into their second row and gaining possession from the ricochet. Half-backs, Andy Harvey and Martyn Hutton, were quick to attack around the the fringe and release centre Oliver Hillary on a trademark jinking run to finish under the posts.
A quickly taken penalty saw Blyth chip, chase and dive over for a converted try to regain their lead that might have been extended if not for a magnificent tackle from Alex Anson preventing a breakaway. Hard-working Ed Craney tidied up and released Graeme Hutton who ran strongly down the right wing only to be tackled into touch. The resulting line-out led to a penalty slotted over by brother Martyn to add to his earlier conversion and leave the game evenly balanced, 10-10, at the break.
The earlier hard work of the forwards, the help of the breeze plus several Blyth replacements saw a complete change around in the match with the Centurions backs allowed to show the full range of their attacking skills.
Hillary scored a second after a quickly taken penalty. Kael Horton disrupted Blyth possession at a scrum allowing flying winger Max Baynes to scoop up the loose ball and sprint over. Seb Jansen ran well to find Dan Heppell and his wing-footed pace took him clear before a tap tackle allowed him to demonstrate acrobatic skills with a somersault and try. The roving Callum Foxcroft linked with Baynes who raced home for his second.
Man-of-the-match Arin Pekdemir was rewarded with fine long-range score from an unpromising position. Some uncharacteristic poor handling saw Tynedale retreating rapidly before the stout-hearted Simon Pattison restored order and held firm until Pekdemir arrived, ripped clear and galloped in from 70 metres.
A Jansen chip was collected by Baynes who still had work to do to grab a richly-deserved hat-trick on his senior debut. Heppell made good ground to be held short but the supporting Shaun Taylor and Joe Common supplied Spencer Tolley who dived across the line.
Another penalty to Blyth saw a quick tap and go and they were rewarded with a converted try for gamely not folding under the Centurions onslaught.
The game finished with a well deserved try for Jansen converted by himself and another for Heppell. Martyn Hutton added only two conversions after the break to complete a comprehensive victory in this "game of two halves".
