We are sad to report the death, at the age of 93years, on Monday 4th. September 2023, of John Suddes, one of Tynedale RFC’s oldest supporters and probably its most celebrated administrator.

John was one of only 22 Tynedale members who, over the club’s 147- year history, have been awarded the club’s ultimate accolade of Honorary Life Membership. He became a Life-Member in 1987.

John was a member of the club’s General Committee for forty years. During that period he served as Team Secretary from 1957 to 1959, a Selector from 1960 to 1962, then for 27 years from 1969 until 1996 he was Honorary Fixtures Secretary. Before Leagues were introduced the Fixture Secretary held the most important position in any aspiring club, and John was an absolute expert. As a result Tynedale slotted into the new League system in 1987 at a much higher level than many other highly-regarded clubs, because of their fixture list.

John was President of Tynedale from 1980 to 1982, and he and his late wife Rita were excellent club ambassadors.

The funeral service was held on Thursday 21st.September at St. Mary’s RC Church, Hexham.
